Dust Your Shutters Regularly 

Interior plantation shutters can easily become covered with dust that makes its way into the home when you have your windows open. Clean Your Faux Plantation Shutters

Faux plantation shutters are made from vinyl. To clean, make a mixture of a few teaspoons of mild dish detergent in a bucket of distilled water. Distilled water is free of minerals that can cause spots to be left on the vinyl during the cleaning process. Dip a piece of microfiber cloth in the sudsy water and use it to wipe down each slat to remove dirt. Afterwards, use a piece of microfiber cloth dipped in plain distilled water to rinse each slat, removing the soapy mixture in the process.

Avoid using household cleaners as the chemicals are harsh and tend to fade the coloring of the vinyl. After you have cleaned and rinsed your shutters, use a soft washcloth or towel to dry each slat.

Clean Your Wood Plantation Shutters

If your shutters are made of wood, they will need to be cleaned a bit differently than a faux plantation shutter. Wood shutters should never be exposed to water, as it can warp the slats. To clean, lightly mist each slat with a wood cleaner and immediately wipe down the wood with a piece of lint-free cloth. If the slats have indentations in the patterning, or if dirt gets embedded around the string pulls of the shutters, dip a toothbrush into wood cleaner and lightly brush it around the area you are trying to clean out. Use a lint-free piece of cloth to dry the area.
