If your home's windows panes have slight scratches on their surface, try one of the following tips that only require basic materials to remove them. Your windows panes will be restored to their original condition once you have finished.

Dry Mustard And White Vinegar

Mix equal parts of dry mustard and white vinegar together until they form the consistency of paste. Use a plastic putty knife to apply a small amount of the mixture to each scratch. Use a buffing cloth to rub the paste into the glass surface. Hold the cloth firmly while moving it around in small circles.

Add more of the dry mustard and vinegar paste to the scratches as needed. Once the scratches are no longer visible, wipe residue off of the window with a damp cloth. Clean each window pane with glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth until all streaks have been removed.

Baking Soda, Water, And Toothpaste

Baking soda and toothpaste are both useful for removing small scratches. Mix equal parts of baking soda, toothpaste, and water together until they are creamy in consistency. Use non-gel toothpaste for the best results. Apply the mixture to the scratches and rub it into the damaged areas with a lint-free cloth. Add more of the mixture if any of the scratches are difficult to remove. Rinse the polishing solution off of the window panes with a damp cloth. Follow up by cleaning the window panes with glass cleaner

Metal Polish

Most metal polishes contain cerium oxide, a compound that is yellowish in color. Apply a small amount of liquid polish to a damp buffing cloth and rub it into each scratch. Only use as much polish as needed because if too much is applied, it can make the scratches worse. If you have metal polish that is in the form of powder, pour a small amount into a cup and mix water with it until it is creamy.

Apply the polish mixture to a damp buffing cloth and remove the scratches with the same instructions that are listed for the liquid polish. Use a damp cloth to wipe away any excess polish after the scratches are eliminated. Clean the glass window panes with glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth when finished.

After all of the scratches have been removed from the window panes, maintain them in the future by always cleaning them with a product that is designed for glass and avoiding abrasive sponges or brushes when wiping each one off.
